AUSTIN SPY. The Austin Spy is listed in a checklist of Texas newspapers as being published in Austin in June 1840. The Spy was associated with the humor of Dr. Richard F. Brenham,^qv who came to Texas from Kentucky in 1836, fought in the Texas Revolution,^qv and later practiced medicine. Since the only reference to the paper is a mention in the Austin City Gazette for June 10, 1840, however, it is possible that the title was the Gazette's nickname for another newspaper.
