ANACACHO MOUNTAIN. Anacacho Mountain, the northwesternmost elevation in the Anacacho range, is located a mile southeast of Farm Road 1572 and the Southern Pacific Railroad in southeastern Kinney County (at 29°11' N, 100°12' W). With an elevation of 1,383 feet above sea level, its summit rises 400 feet above Farm Road 1572. The mountain is sometimes said to have been named for Ana Cacho, the wife of an early Spanish rancher in the area. According to other accounts the name was derived from a ceremonial rite honoring an Indian god, but the Indian name for the mountain was Decate. Early Spaniards, including Fernando del Bosque and Diego Ramón,^qqv called the range Sierra Dacate y Yacasole.
