BALIS, DANIEL E. (?-?). Daniel E. Balis (Bayles, Bayless) was a partner of Isaac Van Dorn^qv as one of Stephen F. Austin's^qv Old Three Hundred^qv families. In October 1824 Balis was living in the San Jacinto area when he nominated Dr. Johnson C. Hunter^qv as the surveyor for the vicinity. In March 1826 he worked for Austin as a hand on the boat Mexican. His title to a sitio^qv of land now in Matagorda County was granted on April 14, 1828. Balis lived in Washington County at or near Chapel Hill. He died before 1837, when his estate was settled.
