BATEN, ANDERSON EDITH (1855-1924). Anderson Edith Baten, teacher and minister, son of Thomas James and Katherine Matilda (Lunsford) Baten, was born at Haw Ridge, Alabama, on October 5, 1855. He attended Baylor University, was ordained a Baptist minister in 1881, and served as pastor of several churches in Texas from 1883 to 1905. He was professor of Bible at Howard Payne College from 1907 to 1911 and again in 1914, president of Oklahoma State Baptist College at Blackwell from 1911 to 1913, and acting president of Howard Payne in 1915. Baten was recording secretary of the Baptist General Convention from 1889 to 1910, a charter member of the Texas Baptist Education Board, and a trustee of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1910-11. His home was in Brownwood. He died on November 3, 1924, and was buried in Greenleaf Cemetery, Brownwood.
