BEACH, HARRISON LEROY (1863-1942). Harrison Leroy Beach, newspaperman, son of Myron H. and Helen Mary (Hoskins) Beach, was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on January 12, 1863. He entered newspaper work in Chicago in 1889 and was with the Associated Press from 1892 to 1911. He was a correspondent at Santiago, Cuba, and other points during the Spanish-American War. For many years he was superintendent of the central division of the Associated Press, with headquarters at Chicago, and represented the organization at national political conventions. He married Jesse M. Bowen on September 5, 1905. With Charles P. Taft, Charles S. Diehl, and others, Beach owned and published the San Antonio Lightqv from 1921 to May 1924. He died in San Antonio on February 18, 1942.
