BEESON, LEANDER (1817–1858). Leander Beeson (or Beason), farmer and Texas militiaman, was born in Tennessee about 1817, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Beeson. In 1822 he moved to Texas with his father. He served as a private in Capt. William J. E. Heard's Company F of Col. Edward Burleson's First Regiment, Texas Volunteers, from February 25 to May 25, 1836. For his service in the battle of San Jacinto Beeson received a bounty of 320 acres in Colorado County in December 1839. By 1840 he had acquired 2,580 acres on the east bank of the Colorado River four miles northeast of Columbus in central Colorado County, where, with his wife Rebecca and son Leander, he raised cattle. Beeson died in Colorado County in 1858; his wife served as executor of his estate.
