BETHEL, TEXAS (Freestone County). Bethel is six miles east of U.S. Highway 84 and thirteen miles southeast of Fairfield in southeast Freestone County. Bethel School had thirty-one white pupils in 1891 and thirty-eight in 1903. Little Bethel School had nineteen black pupils in 1891 and thirty-nine in 1899. By the 1930s the community had only three or four scattered dwellings. In the 1960s only one dwelling and a cemetery remained.
