BUTE, TEXAS. Bute was eight miles south of Athens in southern Henderson County. A post office operated there from 1892 to 1901. In 1896 the reported population was ten. By the mid-1930s the settlement no longer appeared on maps, and in the early 1990s only a few houses remained in the area.
