BALTIC, TEXAS. Baltic, a short-lived farming and post office community ten miles northeast of Rusk in central Cherokee County, was probably established soon after the Civil War. A post office opened there in June 1889 but was closed the following November. In the early 1890s Baltic had a mill, a store, and a few scattered farmhouses; the reported population in 1890 was twenty-five. By 1900 the settlement no longer appeared on maps.
