BARONS CREEK. Barons (Barrons) Creek rises a mile southwest of Cherry Mountain in north central Gillespie County (at 30°23' N, 98°56' W). The stream, intermittent in its upper reaches, flows south-southeast for 16½ miles to its mouth on the Pedernales River, southeast of Fredericksburg (at 30°14' N, 98°50' W). It rises in limestone hills on the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau and traverses flat to rolling terrain with local escarpments and a surface ranging from shallow stony and clayey soil to deeper sandy and clayey loams. Vegetation consists primarily of open stands of live oak and Ashe juniper woods. The stream was named for Baron John O. Meusebach by the German settlers of Gillespie County.
