BACHMAN BRANCH. Bachman Branch rises at Forest Lane a mile south of Interstate Highway 635 and a half mile west of Dallas North Tollway in northern Dallas County (at 32°55' N, 96°49' W) and runs for ten miles south and then west through Bachman Lake to its mouth on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River (at 32°50' N, 96°53' W). It crosses variable terrain surfaced by clay loam that supports oaks, junipers, and grasses. Bachman Branch was called Brownings Branch in the 1840s but was renamed after John B. and William F. Bachman, who settled where the stream crosses Lemmon Avenue in Dallas.
