BACKBONE CREEK. Backbone Creek rises at Backbone Ridge, six miles southwest of Burnet in southwestern Burnet County (30°42' N, 98°18' W), and runs south for thirteen miles, through the town of Marble Falls, to its mouth on Lake Marble Falls, two miles above Max Starke Dam (at 30°34' N, 98°17' W). The terrain is generally flat with local deep dissections and is surfaced by shallow, stony soil that supports oak, juniper, and mesquite.
