Brushy Creek rises 2½ miles southeast of Dexter in extreme northeastern Cooke County (at 33°48' N, 96°57' W) and runs east for ten miles to its mouth on the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma, 2½ miles southeast of Gordonville in northwestern Grayson County (at 33°47' N, 96°50' W). The stream is intermittent in all but its lower reaches. It traverses flat to low-rolling terrain surfaced by sandy and clay loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, scrub brush, cacti, and grasses along the streambed.
