CALHOUN, JAMES HENRY (1849-1919). James Henry Calhoun, judge and state senator, was born in La Grange, Georgia, on January 17, 1849. He graduated in 1870 from Homer College, Louisiana, and moved in August to Waco, Texas, where he was admitted to the bar in August 1873. He engaged in the land business at Eastland from 1873 to 1876, when he became county judge. From 1881 to 1884 he was district attorney for the Twelfth Judicial District. On January 1, 1882, he married Jennie Connor of Eastland; they had three children. In 1885 and 1887 Calhoun was elected to the Texas Senate from the Twenty-ninth District and served as chairman of a committee that investigated the offices of state treasurer and state comptroller. He was subsequently elected judge of the Forty-second District and moved to Cisco in 1903. He died in Cisco on October 1, 1919, and was buried there.
