CABAZA, J. (1830-?). J. Cabaza, farmer, one of the 100 wealthiest Texans in 1860, was born in Mexico and lived and worked in Cameron County. By the time he was thirty he owned $100,000 in real property and $2,000 in personal property. In 1860 Cabaza was one of four Spanish-surnamed individuals enumerated in a group of 263 "Wealthy Texans." Other "Wealthy Texans" residing in Cameron County included Juan N.
