COURTMAN, HENRY (1808–1836). Henry Courtman, Alamo defender, was born in Germany in 1808. He traveled to Texas from New Orleans as a member of Capt. Thomas Breece's company of New Orleans Greys and took part in the siege of Bexar. Courtman remained in Bexar and died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. His brother, George F. Courtman, was killed in the Goliad Massacre.
