CHAMPIONS, TEXAS. Champions is an upscale development located off Farm Road 1960 about sixteen miles northwest of downtown Houston in northwestern Harris County. Houses were being constructed in the unincorporated community by the early 1970s, and in 1972 the Champions area established its own volunteer fire department. In the 1980s the large subdivision had country clubs and golf courses in the vicinity of Cypress Creek. Champions had a population of 17,125 in 1990 and maintained that figure for the 2000 census. The area contains shopping centers with numerous retail businesses, services, and professional offices.
