COVE CITY, TEXAS. Cove City was on Farm Road 1006 just south of Orange and about twenty-five miles east of Beaumont in eastern Orange County. A Cove school, named for the contour of land formed by the confluence of Adams Bayou and the Sabine River, was operating at the community by 1883. The establishment of the Cove school district encouraged further community development, as did the influx of new workers to Orange shipbuilding plants during World War I. In 1954 residents voted, 120 to 109, to incorporate Cove City. The census of 1960 set its population at 1,749; by 1970 that figure had fallen to 1,578. By 1974 Cove City had been annexed by its larger northern neighbor, Orange. In the 1980s the area remained largely urban.
