CENTER UNION, TEXAS. Center Union is a rural community just off Farm Road 153 and six miles northeast of Smithville in eastern Bastrop County. In 1905 it had a one-teacher school for eighty black students. County highway maps showed two churches, a school, and several scattered houses in the area. The Center Union school was consolidated with the Smithville Independent School District in 1962. A community center and two churches marked the community on county maps in the 1980s. In 2000 the community was no longer shown, and no population estimates were available.
