CHANCES STORE, TEXAS. Chances Store was located off Farm Road 50 about eighteen miles east of Caldwell in eastern Burleson County. This small rural settlement near the Brazos River probably began by the early 1900s and was named for the Chance family who had a large farm in the area. A store served local residents and functioned as the headquarters for the Chance Farm. Highway maps of the 1930s showed scattered homes and a school in the community. During World War II, German prisoners of war were held in a facility in the vicinity of Chances Store. By the latter half of the twentieth century the store was closed, and nothing remained of the community.
