CRIB CREEK, TEXAS. Crib Creek, off Farm Road 357 near Helmic in northern Trinity County, was first settled before the Civil War and is said to have been named for a small corn crib built by Caddo Indians and found by early settlers in the area. By 1896 the community had a school, which that year had one teacher and thirty-two students. The local school was consolidated with the Hackberry school in 1915. In the 1930s there were still a number of houses in the area, but after World War II many of the residents moved away. In the early 1990s only a few scattered houses remained there.
