CHINQUAPIN, TEXAS (San Augustine County). Chinquapin is on Chinquapin Creek at the intersection of State Highway 103 and a country road, nine miles southeast of San Augustine in eastern San Augustine County. It was settled before 1900 and named for the nearby creek and the chinquapin trees that are common in the area. In 1904 Chinquapin had two schools serving 100 pupils and three teachers. In 1940 it had a business, an estimated population of twenty-five, two churches, and a number of dwellings. In the 1980s Chinquapin had a number of dwellings, a cemetery, and a church.
