CARDEN, TEXAS. Carden, five miles from Gatesville in eastern Coryell County, was named for Gaines B. Carden, an early settler. By 1949 the school at Carden had been consolidated with the Gatesville schools, but its building continued to be used for church services and community gatherings. There was also a grocery store and filling station at Carden. The community did not appear on county highway maps in the 1980s.
