CROSS TIMBERS REVIEW. The Cross Timbers Review, a journal of poetry, fiction, history, criticism, biography, pen-and-ink drawings, reviews, and interviews, began in 1983 when Cisco Junior College president Norman Wallace approved the journal's concept as developed by editor Monte Lewis, poetry editor Cleatus Rattan, and fiction editor Ken Hammes. Lawrence Clayton of Hardin-Simmons University was literary-criticism editor, and Kenneth Neighbours of Midwestern State University was history and biography editor. Cisco Junior College publishes the review semiannually, using the college's press at Cisco. The first issue appeared in spring 1984. With the exception of poetry, the journal features material relative to the Southwest, especially the Cross Timbers region of Texas and Oklahoma. Cross Timbers Review was nominated for the Understanding Poetry Award for the decade of the 1980s.
