CABEZA CREEK. Cabeza Creek rises four miles southwest of Garfield in southwestern DeWitt County (at 28°59' N, 97°40' W) and runs southeast for forty miles, across southeastern Karnes County, to its mouth on the San Antonio River, six miles west of Goliad in Goliad County (at 28°38' N, 97°29' W). It traverses flat to rolling terrain surfaced by highly permeable calcareous clay that supports scrub brush, cacti, and prairie grasses and, toward the creek's mouth, water-tolerant hardwoods and conifers. The stream has been named Cabeza ("head") since at least 1848.
