CALF CREEK (Menard County). Calf Creek rises ten miles northeast of Menard in northeastern Menard County (at 31°00' N, 99°39' W) and runs southeast, through the southwestern corner of McCulloch County, to its mouth on the San Saba River, twelve miles west of Katemcy in northwestern Mason County (at 30°55' N, 99°27' W). The surrounding flat to rolling prairie is marked by local deep depressions; the soil varies from shallow and stony to deeper clay loams that support oak, juniper, mesquite, and grasses. James Bowie^qv and ten others fought more than 150 Caddo and Lipan Indians along Calf Creek on November 21, 1831.
