CACHE CREEK. Cache Creek rises near U.S. Highway 277 and the Burlington Northern line (see BURLINGTON RAILROAD SYSTEM) about three miles northeast of Bomarton in southwestern Baylor County (at 33°31' N, 99°23' W) and runs east for ten miles to its mouth on the Brazos River, just east of U.S. Highway 183/283 (at 33°31' N, 99°16' W). It crosses an area of flat to rolling terrain with sandy soil that supports scattered oak mottes and occasional marsh grasses. Cache Springs was once a major source for the creek; in earlier times the springs maintained a substantial flow, and a small community evolved nearby. By the 1970s, however, both the town and the springs were gone. The creek runs through ranchland north of the Baylor County Regular oilfield.
