CABALLO CREEK. Caballo Creek, sometimes known as Fernando Creek, rises thirteen miles southwest of Tilden in western McMullen County (at 28°20' N, 98°43' W) and runs southeast for six miles to its mouth on the Nueces River, fifteen miles southwest of Tilden (at 28°15' N, 98°39' W). The stream is dammed in its upper reaches to form Medio de Llano tank. Caballo Creek crosses low-rolling to flat terrain with locally shallow depressions, surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support grasses, mesquite, and chaparral upstream and water-tolerant hardwoods and grasses downstream.
