DAVIE, WILLIAM RICHARDSON (1843-1921). William Richardson (W. R.) Davie, state government official, was born in 1843. During the Civil Warqv he served in the Army of Northern Virginia and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war he lived in South Carolina and served in the state legislature. He married Henrietta C. on June 14, 1871, and they had at least two sons. They moved to Texas in 1900 and settled in Austin. Davie was Texas state tax commissioner under Governor Samuel W. T. Lanhamqv and served as secretary of state under Governor Thomas M. Campbellqv from February 1908 to January 1909. After retiring he became a corporation agent. Davie died on October 8, 1921, and was buried in Mexia, Texas, next to his two sons.
