DASHIELL, WICKLIFFE BOND (1835–1910). Wickliffe Bond Dashiell, physician, farmer, businessman, and state representative, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 9, 1835, the son of Alfred H. and Ann (Ridgley) Dashiell. In 1843 Dashiell moved with his family to Shelbyville, Tennessee. Later he attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor's degree in 1853 and a medical degree in 1856. Afterwards he returned to Shelbyville where he married Catherine A. Greer, a daughter of Texas lieutenant governor John A. Greer,qv in 1857. This couple had two sons and one daughter. Later in 1857 Dashiell immigrated with his family to Texas and settled on a farm near East Fork, Kaufman County. In addition to farming Dashiell also practiced medicine. During this time Dashiell was active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a Knight Templar and Mason.
In April 1861 following the outbreak of the Civil Warqv Dashiell joined the Confederate Army as surgeon for the Nineteenth Texas Cavalry Regiment. He resigned from this position for health reasons in 1864. Returning home he accepted a position as medical examiner of conscripts. In 1866 Wickliffe Dashiell won election as representative for Kaufman County to the Eleventh Texas Legislature.
In 1867 Dashiell ceased his medical practice, focusing instead on farming, land investment, and banking. He continued these business pursuits until 1881 when he relocated to Terrell in Kaufman County to accept a position as representative for the Houston and Texas Central Railway Company. His wife Catherine had died in 1867; Wickliffe Dashiell married Mariana Jones in 1883. This couple had one son and one daughter. In April 1883 he helped establish and was a charter member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Kaufman County. Wickliffe Bond Dashiell died in Kaufman County on August 14, 1910.
