DUPRE, MARCY MATHIAS (1866-1925). Marcy Mathias Dupre, teacher and school administrator, was born on September 4, 1866, near Winton, Gallia County, Ohio, to John and Nancy Sophia (Huntley) Dupre. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1886 and married Sallie Bell Naasson in 1887; to them were born ten children. Mrs. Dupre died in 1908, and Dupre subsequently married Zenobia Smith. He moved to Texas in 1888 to pursue a career of teaching and school administration in Shelbyville, Henderson, Troup, and Center; he became superintendent of schools in Lubbock in 1914. He was an early advocate of the University Interscholastic Leagueqv and was an active proponent of placing high school football on a state-championship basis, a development that came officially in 1921. He served on the committee of the West Texas Chamber of Commerceqv that successfully worked for the establishment of Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University). He died on February 24, 1925, in Lubbock.
