DENNIS, TEXAS. Dennis is on Farm Road 1543 fifteen miles southwest of Weatherford in southwestern Parker County. In 1892, after a bridge was built across the Brazos River, Judge N. M. Dennis, a Parker County lawyer and farmer, developed the community to serve the farmers and ranchers of the area. A Dennis post office was established in 1895. Throughout its history the settlement has been a church and school community. The population surpassed 100 in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1980 and 1990 the community had eighty-six residents. In 2000 its population was ninety. BIBLIOGRAPHY: John Clements, Flying the Colors: Texas, a Comprehensive Look at Texas Today, County by County (Dallas: Clements Research, 1984).
