DARBY HILL, TEXAS. Darby Hill is a small rural community located off U.S. Highway 190, about twenty-three miles northeast of Huntsville and fourteen miles northwest of Coldspring near the western shore of Lake Livingston in northern San Jacinto County. Named after a nearby hill, this African-American settlement began by the late 1800s. During the twentieth century Darby Hill Church continued to serve the community. In 2000 the population was fifty.
