DAIRY ADVISORY BOARD. The Dairy Advisory Board, established by the Forty-second Texas Legislature in 1931, was a three-member board appointed for two-year terms by the governor with the concurrence of the senate. One member represented the dairy processing industries, one the dairy production industries, and one the consumers. The board acted as an advisory body to the commissioner of agriculture to determine proper apparatus for testing butterfat content and component parts of milk. In 1972 the Babcock test was the official dairy test used in Texas. The legislature provided for the approval of other testing equipment as it became available, contingent upon certain standards. The Texas legislature abolished the board in 1993.
