DALBY CREEK. Dalby Creek rises just east of the Red River county line in extreme western Bowie County (at 33°25' N, 94°44' W) and runs southwest for four miles through the southeastern corner of Red River County to its mouth on Wright Patman Lake (at 33°21' N, 94°44' W). Before the construction of the lake in the mid-1950s Dalby Creek entered the Sulphur River near the intersection of the Franklin, Morris, and Red River county lines (at 33°20' N, 94°44' W). The stream crosses flat to gently rolling terrain surfaced by sandy and clay loam that supports grasses and mixed hardwoods and pines. The stream is probably named for Philip A. Dalby, the original grantee of the land near its head.
