EGERTON, HENRY (?-?). Henry Egerton, a native of New York, was long a resident of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. In May 1832 James Prentiss^qv gave him a letter of introduction to Sam Houston.^qv On January 1, 1834, Egerton and Fortunato Soto secured an empresario^qv grant to settle 800 families in Texas, but their contract was never fulfilled. In January 1844 Egerton and Soto were in correspondence with Benjamin Lundy^qv concerning petitioning for land in northern Mexico. D. E. Egerton, an Englishman, was also a Texas empresario.
