EAST CORAZONES DRAW. East Corazones Draw originates on the northern slopes of the Christmas Mountains near the Corazones Peaks in south central Brewster County (at 29°30' N, 103°21' W) and passes to the south and east of the Corazones Peaks as it runs northeast along Rattlesnake Ridge and past Sombrero Peak for some 14½ miles to its mouth on Nine Point Draw, on the broad desert flats to the northwest of the Rosillos Mountains (at 29°33' N, 103°19' W), and three miles below the mouth of West Corazones Draw. East Corazones Draw runs over ancient stream deposits of volcanic materials laid down over limestone. The area at one time supported an arid grassland ecosystem, but heavy grazing virtually destroyed it. In the 1980s the area around East Corazones Draw was dominated by Chihuahuan Desert scrub, including lechuguilla, ocotillo, sotol, and creosote bush. Other local plants included catclaw, honey mesquite, and Mormon tea.
