EAST ELM CREEK. East Elm Creek rises five miles northwest of D'Hanis in west central Medina County (at 29°23' N, 99°21' W) and runs southwest for twenty-two miles to its mouth on the Sabinal River, at a point where Farm Road 187 crosses the river 3½ miles west of Irishman Hill (at 29°10' N, 99°28' W). In its upper and middle reaches, the creek passes through an area of steep to gently sloping terrain surfaced by very shallow to shallow, gravelly loams that support scrub brush and grasses. In the creek's lower reaches the terrain changes to flat with local shallow depressions, surfaced by deep loamy and clayey soils that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
