FARRAR, ROY MONTGOMERY (1870-1943). Roy Montgomery Farrar, banker and civic leader, son of John H. and Sarah (Rose) Farrar, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 16, 1870. After attending public schools in St. Louis he moved to Houston, Texas, in 1885, to Dallas in 1888, and back to Houston in 1896. He was connected with many lumber companies in Houston, including the South Texas Lumber Company, which he established with Jesse H. Jones^qv in 1902, and the Farrar Lumber Company, which he established in 1912. Farrar was president of the National Bank of Commerce of Houston from 1915 to 1921 and became the president of the Union National Bank in 1924. He was a member of the Houston Port Commission from 1914 to 1925, president of the Houston Chamber of Commerce in 1916-17 and from 1925 to 1926, and chairman of the Houston Housing Authority. He married Margaret Campbell on April 30, 1906; they had three children. Farrar died on August 17, 1943.
