FERNÁNDEZ CARRASCO, PEDRO (?-?). Pedro Fernández Carrasco was a pilot in the Armada de Barlovento^qv and diarist of the Rivas-Pez expedition, sent from Veracruz in 1688 to search for René Robert Cavalier, Sieur de La Salle.^qv Fernández relates in detail the ascent of the Soto la Marina River of Tamaulipas and the Rio Grande, a distance of "thirty-six leagues." He also chronicles the reconnaissance of Matagorda Bay, where the Rivas-Iriarte expedition had seen wreckage of La Salle's ships the year before.
