FAYSVILLE, TEXAS. Faysville is off state Highway 281 sixteen miles northeast of McAllen in central Hidalgo County. In 1926 the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway built a line from Faysville to Edinburg. The former was named for Fay Devine, wife of P. S. Devine, who laid out the townsite about 1920. In 1933 the town had a population estimated at ten and one business. In 1947 Faysville received its mail from Edinburg and reported one store and a population of twenty-five. By 1963 the town's population had increased to fifty, and it had two churches and several dwellings. During the 1970s a colonia (see COLONIAS) formed outside Faysville; by 1986 it had 200 dwellings and an estimated population of 900. During the same period Faysville proper had an estimated population of 300, which remained constant through 1990. The population was 348 in 2000.
