FAIRCHILDS CREEK. Fairchilds Creek rises just north of Needville in south central Fort Bend County (at 29°25' N, 95°51' W) and runs northeast, then southeast, for a total of ten miles before reaching its mouth on Big Creek (at 29°25' N, 95°43' W). The stream was named for Philo Fairchilds, an original grantee of land in the area. The vegetation along the creek consists of mixed hardwoods interspersed with prairie grasses. The local terrain is surfaced by highly impermeable soils in some areas and in others by calcareous clay.
