GALVESTON COMMERCIAL CHRONICLE. The Commercial Chronicle, a Galveston newspaper, was published by Samuel Bangsqv from early August 1842 until sometime in 1843, when its name was changed to Galveston Independent Chronicle.qv Bangs's advocacy of a strong navy and strict interpretation of the Texas constitution made the paper appear to oppose Sam Houston.qv
