GALVESTON COMMERCIAL CHRONICLE. The Commercial Chronicle, a Galveston newspaper, was published by Samuel Bangs^qv from early August 1842 until sometime in 1843, when its name was changed to Galveston Independent Chronicle.^qv Bangs's advocacy of a strong navy and strict interpretation of the Texas constitution made the paper appear to oppose Sam Houston.^qv
