GALLATIN, ALBERT (1809–1898). Albert Gallatin, soldier, was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 1, 1809. He was single when he moved to Texas from Missouri in 1832. He enlisted in the revolutionary army on November 1, 1835, took part in the Grass Fight in John Crane's company, was discharged on December 13, 1835, and reenlisted as a first sergeant in William Ware's Second Company, Second Regiment of Texas Volunteers. Gallatin was slightly wounded in the battle of San Jacinto and was discharged on June 12, 1836. Gallatin married the former Sarah Louise Jones of Alabama on November 23, 1837. In January 1841 he was captain of a company in Edwin Morehouse's regiment in an expedition against the Indians on the upper Brazos River. Gallatin lived in Montgomery and Milam counties but died in Brazos County, on February 16, 1898, and is buried in Bickham Cemetery.
