GOLDTHWAITE, GEORGE (1830-1897). George Goldthwaite, lawyer, son of Robert Henry Goldthwaite, was born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina, on May 27, 1830. The family moved to Montgomery County, Alabama, where in 1844 Goldthwaite clerked in a mercantile establishment and studied law. In 1853 he moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked for a time as a bookkeeper before he was admitted to the bar in 1858. In 1856 he married Louisa Stone. He became an attorney for the Houston and Texas Central Railway Company and was prominent in Houston legal circles until his death on April 23, 1897.
