GASTONIA, TEXAS. Gastonia is on U.S. Highway 175 between Kaufman and Crandall in west central Kaufman County. Settlement began in the late 1800s near the tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Gastonia was a church and school community and shipping point for area farmers. The population, never reported as more than fifty, was estimated at thirty from the late 1970s to 2000. Gastonia was probably named for an early settler, Bill Gaston.
