GUNTER, TEXAS (Wood County). Gunter is near the Lake Fork Reservoir on Farm Road 17 some five miles north of Alba in northwestern Wood County. By 1905 the one-teacher Gunter school had twenty-five students. In the 1930s the community's scattered farms and homes were served by a church and by a school, which in 1932 had seventy-five students in nine grades. The church and one dwelling remained at the site by the late 1950s, and Gunter still had a church in the 1980s according to the county highway map.
