GARZAS, TEXAS. Garzas (Garza's, Garza's Crossing) was on the Medina River near the site of what is now Von Ormy in southwestern Bexar County. A post office, named Garza's Crossing in honor of a local family, opened there in 1872. In 1875 the post office department officially shortened the name to Garzas. After the International-Great Northern Railroad bypassed the settlement in the early 1880s, the community gradually declined. Its post office was closed in 1880, and the focus of area farmers shifted to Von Ormy.
