GRAYSON COUNTY COLLEGE. Grayson County College, in Denison, was organized as a junior college in 1963 by the Grayson County Development Council. In 1964 college bonds were sold, Cruce Stark became the college's first president, and construction of an eight-building campus began. Classes began in September 1965, with an initial enrollment of 1,479. By 1969 the library contained 24,000 volumes. The college offered courses leading to associate degrees in arts, engineering, science, and business administration. One- and two-year terminal courses were given by the technical-vocational division, and the evening division provided an adult education program. In 1972 the faculty numbered 112. Student enrollment in the regular term of 1974 was 3,854; Truman Wester was president. In the 1990s the Grayson County College East and West campuses were on 480 acres of land near Lake Texoma. There were seventeen buildings on the main campus. The West Campus consisted of 400 acres, formerly occupied by Perrin Air Force Base.^qv The land and twenty-three buildings were acquired in 1971. The college also had several off-campus facilities in neighboring communities. It was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The college was divided into five instructional divisions: academic studies, careers and technology, developmental studies, health science, and workforce development. In the fall of 1999, 3,320 students were enrolled and the faculty numbered 172.
